EVENT OUTLINE

Introduction and overview into current Early Trauma Response and Trauma Capacity Building Interventions including empirically supported Psychological Treatment Interventions for Adults and Younger Persons

Workshop day will be divided into morning Theory and Content review, with afternoon focus on Experiential Practice Group Work of Interventions

Acute Stress Reactions experienced by people during a traumatic event are normal responses to an abnormal event. Trauma Response Protocols require safety, relevance efficiency, effectiveness for the specific target population and its traumatic challenges with appropriate culture sensitivity incorporating Emotional, Cognitive, Physiological Behavioural and Spiritual Responses.  Timing and selection of most suitable Trauma Response Intervention is critical.

Untreated Traumatic Reactions fester and can contribute to longer recovery, expanded symptom duration that are experienced weeks, months and years after the traumatic event which can, untreated, develop  into recurrent distress, anxieties, depressions including  flashbacks,  levels of dissociations, avoidance behaviours increasing risks of Post-Traumatic Stress and associated trauma driven disorders.

Addressing Moral and Spiritual Injury is also a significant factor for consideration in the continuum of Trauma Response Treatment.

As demonstrated in the Early Response Projects with Trauma Response Network Ireland www.trnireland.ie and Trauma Aid Europe www.trauma-aid-europe.org , Trauma Responses were delivered for the conflict in Ukraine in March & April 2022 and April 2023, where despite an ongoing traumatic environment it was demonstrated doing something is clearly more effective than doing nothing.

Tailored Early Trauma Response can serve to both provide initial support to manage symptoms, support current coping capacities, and boost resilience in addition to supporting recovery, healing and post traumatic growth while also building local Trauma Capacity.
